The Dragon Boat Festival in Taiwan

A Time for Celebration and Tradition

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Double Fifth Festival, is a special time of year during which Taiwan gets a major holiday vacation. This year, the festival falls on Monday, June 10th. People on the Chinese mainland enjoy a 3-day national holiday from June 8th to 10th.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday that dates back over 2,000 years. The festival is said to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet who drowned himself in the Miluo River in 278 BC. According to legend, Qu Yuan's ghost returned to earth every year on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month to eat rice dumplings. To keep his ghost from returning, people began throwing rice dumplings into the river.

Today, the Dragon Boat Festival is a time for celebration and tradition. People all over Taiwan participate in dragon boat races, eat rice dumplings, and watch lion dances. The festival is also a time for family reunions and get-togethers.

If you're planning on visiting Taiwan during the Dragon Boat Festival, be sure to check out some of the many events and activities that will be taking place. You can watch dragon boat races, sample delicious rice dumplings, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of this unique festival.
